Dan Almagor throughout the second half of stanza three of his poem We Shoot Children Too, Don’t We? develops imagery of the humiliation that the generals, colonels, the divisions, the battalions, and the platoon commanders put the civilians through. Earlier the author asked “What shall they say Of those terrible beatings, The brutality, Of houses blown up, And

most of all, the humiliation. That humiliation.” And he is right. There is no reason that any army should have to harass and humiliate the civilians of any region that they are occupying. When they do these kinds of atrocious acts, they only dehumanize themselves, while also making the other countries and the peoples of those countries around them question how safe that they are. Many of these thoughts will seep through the minds of the individuals and taint how they perceive their neighbors for many generations to come. They will be seen as the people that did the atrocious act to innocent people who were just trying to live their lives in peace. These acts will isolate the state more and more from counties in this day and age which is something that will not be beneficial for the state because we are such an interdependent off of each other.

Michel Onndaatje in his poem To A Sad Daughter talks about how much he loves his daughter and him giving her advice for the future. He states that

“I would rather be your closest  friend than your father.” then later goes on to say “Sometimes you are so busy discovering your friends I ache with loss – but this is geed.” Which expresses how much he loves his daughter because he would rather be her best friend so that he can spend more time with her rather than be her father so he could get to know her like how she is trying to understand the friends that she has right now. Some of the advice that he gives her was “I’m no good at advice you know that, but ride your ceremonies until they grow dark.” Advising her to be proud of her victories and to celebrate them, but know that they will eventually become irrelevant. So she should remember that she should let those go and embrace the things that are happening in her life at the moment.
